RGB's MediaWall Makes Nano Seem Larger Than Life
The University of California, Los Angeles's (UCLA) new California NanoSystems Institute theater/auditorium provides a wide range of AV technology. The theater is used for a diversity of science and technology lectures, presentations, seminars and symposia. Nanoscience comes out of the laboratory's electron microscopes and onto the theater's widescreen via digital projectors.
Integration of the California Nanosystems Institute theater was provided by Avidex AV, a west coast AV systems integrator and RGB Spectrum technical partner. The MediaWall 2000 was the display processor of choice. According to Mike McLean, CTS-D, integrated systems sales account manager at Avidex, "A dual projector side-by-side display was developed to make maximum use of the available screen area. An image-processing device was needed to allow multiple media devices and imagery to be shown simultaneously in a widescreen, picture-in-picture display. The MediaWall 2000 display processor allows users to make computer images as big as the screen will allow, then place those images anywhere on the screen surface. This allows side-by-side comparisons and provides the ability to monitor multiple events."
The theater presents a challenging, ever changing presentation venue with a broad variety of signal types and sources are presented on a daily basis. According to Jimmy Suo of UCLA's Academic Technology Services, "The RGB Spectrum processor was chosen because it has a good reputation for 24/7 operation, redundant power supplies and the wide range signals it takes in."
Suo emphasized, "This is a very advanced, collaborative space. We're using off-the-shelf AV gear to provide a very advanced platform for teaching, research and collaboration. The MediaWall met this requirement."
