University Business School Enrolls Multi-Image Display Technology
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), the largest university in Virginia, recently completed a quarter-billion-dollar campus addition, the largest construction project in VCU history. A major element of this expansion was the addition of a new building for the VCU School of Business.
The new facility features a novel stock exchange trading center. The Whitlock Group, a systems integrator based in Richmond, Virginia, was hired by VCU to equip the new trading center with the latest audio visual technology. Tom Jenkins, Account Manager for The Whitlock Group explained, "The objective was to design a stock trading display system that presents multiple live images that are correlated, side-by-side on a single screen. We also needed a solution that had the flexibility to support high resolution computer imagery as well as video. Because the image content was predominantly composed of financial data in fine detail, image clarity was a key concern. Following rigorous evaluation, we selected RGB Spectrum's QuadView™ 2+2 multi-image display processor. The QuadView processors are the best-in-class, delivering outstanding sharpness and image processing performance at a cost-effective price."
The VCU Business School's stock trading center is designed to realistically mimic actual exchanges so students get the experience of real stock traders. The center is equipped with nine QuadView 2+2 processors. The processors receive inputs from multiple computers, comprised of live data feeds from all the major stock exchanges, as well as Excel spreadsheets, internet pages, and PowerPoint presentations. The QuadView processor provides the added versatility to display video from DVD players along with internet and television broadcasts from CNBC, CNN, Moneyline, local news stations, and other national financial broadcasts. The processors consolidate the input feeds and output the source images either full screen or in side-by-side windows to a ceiling-mounted Christie DS+5K front projection display system and multiple large-screen LCD displays.
Instructors use a touchscreen control panel to switch sources, choose pre-set display arrangements, and manipulate the individual display windows. Display windows can be any size, anywhere on screen and images can also be panned and zoomed to focus students on an area of particular interest.
