Hosting Future All-Stars: The Development School for Youth Visits RGB Spectrum

RGB Spectrum believes in investing in the intellectual capital of our nation’s youth. In this spirit, RGB Spectrum recently hosted a group of high school students enrolled in the Joseph A. Forgione Development School for Youth for an afternoon of career-focused workshops.

The Development School for Youth (DSY) is a leadership-training program for students between the ages of 16 and 21. Every year nearly 300 students, recruited from more than 60 high schools across New York City, Newark, Chicago and the San Francisco Bay Area are accepted into the DSY program. The program partners with over 100 major corporations to provide work place training and summer internship opportunities for DSY graduates.

The DSY program culminates with a series of corporate workshops designed to introduce students to what companies do, and what it take to get and succeed at a corporate career. Students are exposed to a range of career options at companies that represent high-tech, law, insurance, financial and other sectors.

RGB Spectrum’s workshops focused on careers in high-tech. Presentations covered a range of topics: tech support, marketing, engineering, quality control, and human resources. The event ended with a seminar on entrepreneurship given by Bob Marcus, our founder and CEO.

“This is the fourth year we have been involved with the DSY program,” remarked Marcus. “Our presenters represent a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and career paths, and the stories and advice that they share really resonates with the students. We have been very impressed by the dedication and professionalism of the students who have interned at RGB Spectrum, and are proud to support this valuable program.”

The words of Joseph Forgione sum up the aim of this program: “I knew…that many people from our inner cities were not being properly prepared by the school system to pursue their career or educational goals. With the creation of the Development School for Youth, …[w]e now have a school that is supported by CEO’s, as well as leading scholars and parents. Together we are helping young people succeed by becoming more worldly, and confident to learn new things.”
